Court reveals Polanski settlement

Roman Polanski is a producer, director, writer and also an famous actor. He was convicted in 1977 of sexual intercourse with Samantha Geimer.

Samantha was thirteen years old when she met Roman Polanski. “ He said that he wanted to take pictures of me for a magazine. He did something else, he gave me champagne and a hypnotic drug and then took advantage of me“, that was her story.
Polanski is being held in Switzerland on a US arrest warrant over his conviction.
In October 1993, a deal was reached between the parties.

Roman Polanski

In 1978, he ran out of the country to avoid his conviction. He was on the Interpol “wanted list” since he left the UK.
Many years later, he has to pay $ 500,000 to Samantha Geimer.
The governor of California, Arnould Schwarenegger, had an outspoken opinion about the matter. He said that Roman Polanski was treated like any other human and wasn’t getting any special treatments.
I agree with the opinion of Arnould Schwarenegger, because each person has the same rights. It would be terrible that he wouldn’t be punished for what he did to Samantha Geimer.
I think it’s cowardly of Polanski to leave the country for his conviction.
I thought this was an interesting article about the law in the UK, you can see that it is different than in Europe, where the civil law is grounded.
In class, we have discussed the legal systems in the world. The most important are the English law (common law) and civil law.
The article that I have found on the BBC is an example of the English law and common-law system.
